Take the train to mammoth..Good or Bad?

That’s right everyone in the sometime near future you just might be able to take Amtrak to bishop ca. and on into Reno NV. The union pacific R.R. is looking into running a new line that would split off just north of Lancaster and run along side the HWY 395. This would open up for Amtrak trains to run a direct run from L.A. to Reno but that’s not why they would like to build this new line. Basically they don’t want to send there rail traffic that is bound to Reno NV and beyond threw rail yards like Roseville or Oakland any longer. They say it's causing to much back log of trains and slowing things down on the west coast side. My problem with this possible new train traffic is will it be a good thing or a bad thing for all the small towns along the HWY 395? I mean how could sleeping on an Amtrak from L.A. then waking up in bishop to be only 30 mines away from mammoth be bad? Ah Ha there's more to this than meets the eye you see what happens if companies out in that area want to get rail service from the U.P.R.R... That's good right less truck traffic on the 395 for anything brought in by rail or does this possible rail line turn all those small towns threw there into bustling cites eventually. Change is good right? Cause if you ask me if this new rail line does happen that’s what will happen Change and a lot of it. Let’s hope the change would be for the good and we don’t see these small towns like mammoth or bishop turn into something we try to escape from every weekend. But it would sure be nice to sit back and relax on your way to and from mammoth.

Party Train

Could be cool!

"I can remember once when I knew everyone's name on the hill, now it's like looking through a huge metro city phone book."

agreed

i think that it could work, but then again it could also bring people who originally couldnt get to mammoth... so sure it will add to the number of people but who knows it could help the small towns on the 395 by bringing business... it could also help mammoth by bringing more business which means more money for them to spend on making it better

WEll lets be real.....

MAmmoth is owned by intrwest,

INtrawest always exploits new developments.
Look at Keystone and WHistler and any other condo village style resort.
You cant stop them and Mammoth is no place i feel to escape to...
Escape to Telluride, or Mt Baker, Or Jackson Hole, Or Grand Targhee. even Monarch is an escape....

Those are worhthy escape zones,...

what!

No, I think you misunderstood what I meant, I'm escaping from LA to go to Mammoth.

must be nice...

thanks for reminding me of all the other mountains that Im missing because im not one of the lucky few who make a butt load of money to travel. im glad you dont think mammoth is an escape, that one less person in front of me in the life line.

no offense...

Escaping from La is great...
I just want to escape all the other weekend warriors too.
and too many times Mammoth is scene to the greatest dumps of the year.
I just prefer to escape california entirely ..when i am able too..
see you on the hill Bren
I hope i get that chance to be on the lift with you to share stories and experiences..
until winter...

mammoth

I am not too scared if they put the train through to Bishop. Bishop might grow but lift tickets at mammoth aren't going down any time soon and I dont think anyone who doesn't already know it's there, and would be willing to drive would be willing to take the train. I think I'd probably hop on it to come down to LA often (now that I don't have a car). But like you said, lets just keep our fingers crossed that if this does happen, everyone will benefit and the world will be a happier place.

read carefully...Mammoth is worthy

Okay Gary lets read what invader wrote: "Let’s hope the change would be for the good and we don’t see these small towns like mammoth or bishop turn into something we try to escape FROM every weekend"
He's not saying he escapes to mammoth, he's saying he hopes it doesn't turn into a huge city like LA that we have to escape FROM every weekend.
Even if he did "escape to Mammoth" like the rest of us who want more than a thirty second ride in our local mountains, Mammoth is worthy. Camping, fishing, or shreding, Mammoth has everything I need to forget about ungrateful people like you who can't appreciate a 50 dollars worth of gas money round trip drive with friends. Sorry but I'm just sticking up for the people who don't have it as well as you. I mean come on not all of us work in the industry, make six figures and get to write off our snow trips on our taxes.
Oh, and opening day is November 10th.

Savagely wrong..

No offense
i speak on behalf of myself. I do like MAMMOTH.
i AM NO DIFFERENT THAN YOU WORKING TO GET BY NOT RICH REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU MAY THINK...
"Lets hope" non reality.
Intrawest "reality"!!
I am saying that When Intrawest bought it, That was the dawn of a new era for Mammoth. The human is the apex predator of exploitation.
Appreciate 50 bucks worth of gas Try 100$ now. You obviously havent run into me at 7 eleven with my two mutts scrapin change for a java on my way out the door to Mt Baldy.. Humpin magazines around in my 20 year old BM'er.. If you have you would be sure to sing a different note..
And you have to admit writing off the snow trips is a plus... but would be even sweeter if the wage was as you described....

We at Snowboard Magazine do this out of Love for the sport, and its growth. To represent what snowboarding is to us, what it was, and where its going.
I personally take offense to someone who may try to call me out who hasnt spent time on the lift with me.
I will ride anywhere on the hill anytime with a smile.
I am sorry that you are peggin me for a Mammoth hater though..
Not true..
I jUst know what Snowboarding is to me and I enjoy my escapes each and every time savage.
Viva Amtrak .......
Hey Amtrak -why dont you run a special to Wolf creek or Angel Fire huh??
No offense.

See you on the hill..
