Magnetraction Feedback

Let's get some feedback on this Magnetraction stuff. I am contemplating getting one but have some questions. Does it slow you down at all? How is it in a pipe (assuming good)? Is it hooky or smooth? I was turning through an Outside Magazine the other day and they said it was bad in choppy snow...True? Anyone who's ridden one let me know. There must be something sweet about it. I'll probably ride one first before taking the plunge.

Travis Rice rode a magnatract

Travis Rice rode a magnatraction in the Breckenridge Grand Prix HP all last week. After watching him go 10' out on it, I'd say it works.

Go demo one and let us know what you think.

Input from the Average Rider

Well, I borrowed last years Magnetraction 156 from our Local shop, Stumptown Snowboards, and ended up ordering the TRS Magnetraction 159 (if you want one act now cause I don't think there are many left). So far it absolutely rips groomers and man made snow. It feels like you can auger in an edge at any speed. I can't really tell much difference in the chop and you can pretty much ride a piece of plywood in pow so it was a no brainer. It really puts some fun into riding groomers. Our mountain is getting a Zaugg this January so that is where I think it will get really fun. The main difference is that your weight is shifted to make it work effectively. Instead of initiating your turn with your weight kind of forward on your board, it seems like you need to stand more centered and stand in the middle on the edge. That's probably a good thing. Doing things like BS180s it feels like you need to land more centered. Outside of the Magnetraction though the TRS is SUPER light, rides really poppy and not as stiff as I expected it to be.

yeah

i have the travis rice magnetraction that i won from the best snowboarding magazine ever, and it rides like a dream. its super easy to turn, and holds an edge great even when its been filed down. like that article said though, the whole "ice into powder" thing may be a tad of an exageration, but im not complaining at all. besides the magnetraction the flex on the board is amazing, its that perfect blend of press-ablie soft, but aggressively stiff, dont know the tech way to say that. not to mention all the compliments i get on the graphics. long story short... best board ever, if you ever have a chance to ride one, take it. and then go buy one.

and to carnegie, im from new york, so i know what youre talking about, it handles great on the ice coast

Me too

Yea I'm also thinking of getting one. I read that it does really well in hardpack and ice (which is all we have in the north east). But I'm not sure yet if I want to spend the money on what could be a bad board.

We got the lowdown

check out our third issue (not yet out) for the complete lowdown on how magnetraction works.

True

Aye, and I read it (nice article by the way). But I (no offense) I wanted to see reviews from some guys who weren't payed to ride this board. I honestly mean no offense. I love the magazine, but somehow on certain issues I feel like I want to hear from the average rider.

Love it...

I rode a Mag 3 last year at a demo and bought one based solely on the 5 runs I had on it. These boards kick ass! I got a 159 TRS this year and I totally love it. I rode it in everything from pow right through to sheet ice and I must say on the ice it really did track better than anything I have ridden to date. I turned a buddy on to Magnetraction and he is a full carver and he was looooving it.
In my humble opinion Lib make the best boards anyway and Magnetraction has sealed the deal for me. I won't ride anything else now.
All I want now is a longer one with less flex for the big mountain stuff.
