I recently just watched whitey's greatest hits. i was stoked to say the least. but i was also kinda bummed. it reminded me of the days when snowboarding was more.
one of the biggest downers of the movie was cody dresser. that guy is sitting at the helm of the largest voice in snowboarding. yet he isn't able to direct snowboarding in the proper (what i think it proper) direction. i am sure he is tied by corpo rules and regulations. forced to keep his mouth shut by advertisers. but i say fuck it. here is this bad ass snowboarder who is forced to edit himself.
through out the whole movie everyone was saying how we need another blunt mag. we don't need another blunt mag we just need the mags to say it like it is. not how Burton or k2 want us to see it.
someone does need to shake up snowboarding. but why is everyone who is in the postition to shake things up afraid??
maybe because in the end snowboarding is this mainstream lame sport. with companies like burton and k2 leading the charge.
or maybe i need to not drink a 12 pack of beer while watching whitey's movie...
Tell it like it is?
Interesting post Roadkill. I think that today snowboarding is a different beast than it was ten years ago. There is no going back to those days just like you can't go back to a time when there were only a handfull of riders on the mountain five years before that. But riding pow is just as much fun as it has always been. Sure, Cody has to edit himself. Probably more because TW has to reach 14 year old kids where Blunts target was older and they could and did print annything they wanted.
Are you talking about calling people out about their BS? Or does that even matter to a kid who is just stoked to go riding?
As far as shaking things up, I know we have already done that and made people (at the other mags) rethink what they are doing.
The market is made up of recreational riders who just like to snowboard and could care less about all the behind the scenes politiking that goes on.
beer
or just don't drink a lot of brews and watch whitey's flick.
