ARBOR CELEBRATES EIGHT YEARS OF USING BAMBOO TO STRUCTURALY AND AESTHETICALLY ENHANCE ITS SNOWBOARDS

January 22nd, 2008 - With the launch of Arbor’s 2009 collection, the company will mark eight-years using bamboo as a structural and aesthetic material in the construction of its snowboards. Arbor’s use of bamboo began in 2001 with the introduction of its Mystic Series. Back then, the decision was made to add bamboo to Arbor’s list of environmentally friendly, natural construction materials for several important reasons:

Rogue Status, the controversial, pridefully non-conventional, “luxury goods brand” - and Arbor, the surf/skate/snow industry’s forerunner in the use of environmentally friendly, beneficial materials, announced today that they will release 333 specially designed and numbered snowboards - a collaborative, limited offering that will be sold exclusively through select Arbor and Rogue Status dealers in the US and Canada.

The Arbor/Rogue Status collaboration was conceived by the designers at each company as a way to work together and create something unique by blending the strengths of each brand - Rogue’s notorious, push the limits messaging, and Arbor’s performance and style enhancing, EcoTechnologies. In the end, this snowboard reflects the joint vision of a crew of friends that live and work in Venice, CA - home to both brands.

I would like to personally pass along a piece of news that we’re very proud of at Arbor. We’ve recently released our first signature skate with friend, Kelly Slater. The new “Slater Series” was created to honor Kelly’s accomplishments as an 8x world champion surfer, while at the same time speak to the other aspects of his amazing life.

The Slater Series is Arbor’s first composite design. It is built with a unique blend of materials that deliver a powerful combination of attributes, including: carve-oriented performance; solid downhill style; the right amount of surf heritage; and most importantly, a respect for the environment. In the end, it’s the environment that makes a life of surf, skate, and snow possible. This awareness has always been important to both Kelly and Arbor. It fueled our design efforts ensuring the creation of the most environmentally friendly composite skate possible.

For 10-years, Venice based Arbor has grown into a leading snow and skate brand based on the idea that environmentally friendly natural elements can be used to create improved performance, increased durability, and a compelling level of style. Now for the first time, Arbor's full line of snowboards, skateboards, and apparel can be viewed at the Company’s new retail showroom.

The new Arbor store is located in the heart of Venice, at 102 Washington Blvd., one block off the Venice Pier. It is situated in the front part of the building that has served as Arbor’s home for the last two years - a classic Venice structure that previously housed the Roller Disco era skate shop, Skatey's. Rumor has it that the building was moved to its current location in the late 1940's from the legendary Pacific Ocean Pier (P.O.P.), where it was the amusement park’s first funhouse.

Venice, California—Arbor is proud to announce the release of a limited production “Basich Series” snowboard. The Basich Series was created to celebrate the innovative photography of Arbor team rider Mike Basich. Only 150 of this signature model will ever be produced - each piece hand-signed and numbered by Mikey B.

Over the years Mike’s often emulated POV and self-portrait images have helped to transform traditional snowboard photography. Mike has been published in every major snowboard mag in the business, including: Transworld, Snowboarder, Snowboard, The Snowboard Journal, Frequency, Snowboard Canada, FSM, On-Board, Snowboard UK, SnowStyle, Snowing, SnowSurf, Method Magazine, Monster Backside, and many more. Transworld, recently acknowledged Mike’s skills with a 12-page feature story highlighting his POV photography, titled “Versus.” Mike’s photos have also received cover placement on Snowboarder, The Snowboard Journal, and Snowboard UK.
